Harmonix and MTV are going to great lengths to ease their customers transition to the upcoming Rock Band 2. First they announced compatibility with Rock Band DLC, now we learn of the ability to import “most” of the songs from the Rock Band disc for use in Rock Band 2 without disc swapping.

This has required Harmonix to renegotiate a license for every song on the disc, an exhaustive process that is still underway. Unfortunately this means you’ll have to pay a small fee for the privilege, but it’s unlikely to be more than $10.

No details on what tracks won’t make the cut, but rumor has it that it’s all related to certain artists being signed exclusively to Guitar Hero World Tour.
