Rolling Stone on Guitar Hero vs Rock Band

The latest issue of Rolling Stone has a cover article on the ongoing feud between Guitar Hero and Rock Band. If you read Music Gamer, you’ll likely be privy to much of what is covered already - click through for the rest.

  • Guitar Hero: Aerosmith sold 567,000 copies in its first week. Their last album managed 160,500 in its first week.
  • Led Zeppelin will not be in World Tour or Rock Band 2 - they’re too paranoid to give out their master recordings
  • Janie Hendrix is working on a deal to have Jimi Hendrix music appear in Rock Band 2
  • 20 million pieces of Guitar Hero downloadable content have been sold, with Rock Band close behind at 16 million
  • For each downloadable track sold, the band and label each get around 50 cents - making it many times more profitable than selling an MP3 on iTunes (in many cases, the bands don’t even get this much for selling an entire CD)
